Reflexology is the technique of applying gentle pressure to the nerve endings of feet or hands to promote deep relaxation, stimulate the body’s own natural healing process and to bring the person back to a state of balance and well-being.
Reflexology is a science based on the principles that reflexes, or areas, in the feet, hands and other parts of the body relate to the internal organs, glands and other structures of the body.
The ancient healing art of reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years. It was first practised by the early Indian, Chinese and Egyptian peoples. The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of “imbalance”, and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the Body’s natural equilibrium and encourage healing.
A reflexologist uses only their hands to apply gentle pressure to the feet or hands. For each person the application and the effect is unique. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points the Reflexologist can restore the flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination of toxins is improved.
One of the most important benefits of this treatment is its efficiency in reducing stress. Approximately seventy per cent of disorders can be related to stress and nerve tension. Because Reflexology encourages the body to relax, other functions are also affected. A Reflexology treatment treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of the condition, most people benefit from the treatment.
Once your body is in-tune, it is wise to have regular treatments in order to help maintain health and well-being.
